The Ten Best Mirrors

1. Ikea - £14.99 (60cm diameter)

This 1960s-style Horten mirror is from Ikea. It's water-resistant so it would work well as a bathroom mirror or above the kitchen sink. A 24cm version is also available at £2.99.

2. John Lewis - £60 (55x70cm)
It’s not antique, but this ornate cream looking-glass is pretty. You can make one by buying a second-hand gilt mirror and spray-painting the frame off-white. It’s surprisingly effective.

3. Heal’s - £87.50 (95x59cm)
Perfect for a little girl’s bedroom, this sweet, shaped mirror is just the right size for budding fashion fans. Alternatively, big girls could buy this and hang it a little higher.

4. Alessi - £170 (74.5x86.5cm)
The Campagna brothers from Brazil have used various lengths of steel wire to create a unique series of objects for Alessi. My favourite is the striking Blow Up mirror.

5. Bespoke Mirrors - £205 (40.7cm cube)
A solid mirrored cube makes a change from a wall mirror. Alternatively, visit the Bespoke Mirrors site devoted to all things reflective.

6. Five X Five - £149.99 (55x55cm)
The Five X Five has 25 mirroredglass panels that are each set at a different angle. Londoners should check out the Tube-map-embossed mirror also available on this site.

8. Matalan - £15 (60cm)
Sharp-eyed shoppers can bag a stylish bargain at Matalan. Ignore the acres of cut-price clothing and check out its inexpensive homewares. This mirror costs an unbelievable £15.

9. Innervision - £45 (51x20.5cm)
It may look like an eye-test, but the Innervision mirror displays a quote from Wilde: “It is only shallow people who do not judge by appearances.”
